Article: Grand Opening Weekend at Sunny California

Grand Opening Weekend at Sunny California
Sunny California opened its doors in Santa Cruz on Saturday, May 2, a few blocks from Pleasure Point.
What started as a Grand Opening turned into a full day of art, music, surf, coffee, giveaways, familiar faces, and new friends coming through the shop.
Barney Barron’s art filled the walls, the community showed up in a way that felt unreal, and Ribsys Nickel carried the night with a live set inside the space.
The day started with the shop open to the neighborhood, Barney Barron’s work on the walls, and people moving between the gallery, the floor, and the outdoor space.
Inside, it felt like the right kind of mix. Surfboards, apparel, coffee, art, music, and a steady flow of people stopping in to support the shop.
The best part was seeing people settle in. Some came for the art, some came for the shop, some came for the music, and a lot of people stayed longer than planned.
As the day moved into night, the lounge filled up for Ribsys Nickel. The set brought the right energy to the room and closed out the day in a way that felt true to the space.
Thanks again to everyone who came through, bought something, shared a drink, checked out the art, listened to the music, or simply helped make the first weekend feel like the start of something real.
More events, art shows, film nights, live music, and community gatherings are already in the works.
